SAND FILTER BACKWASH WATER RECOVERY

Maintaining the designed capacity of sand filters requires that the filters to be backwashed periodically with treated water. Globally, up to 10% of all treated water is used for backwashing.

This water contains high amounts of suspended solids, bacteria, parasites, and heavy metals and is typically sent wholly or partly to the raw water intake of the plant. This risks upsetting the treatment process, potentially affecting the final water quality.

Although filter backwash wastewater contains suspended solids in the hundreds of mg/L and turbidities exceeding 1,000 NTU, our SiC modules can directly treat wastewater for potable water reuse.
